width="280"Lice are small blood-sucking insects (they feed on blood), which parasitize exclusively oviparous and human skin.

The term pediculosis is used to refer to infections of the skin by lice, including three very similar processes caused by different species of parasites: pediculosis capitis or head (Pediculus capitis), body lice or clothing (Pediculus humanus) and genital lice or “crabs” (Phitirius pubis). They are small insects, 1-3 mm long, hairy areas that parasitize and feed sucking blood through small pits in the skin.

Of the three processes mentioned, infestation by head lice is by far the most common, and currently represents a major health problem, especially in the school population. (more…)

Who can be infected by head lice?
Head lice do not distinguish socioeconomic, cultural, age and sex. The most common transmission mechanism is head to head, but it is also important to spread through the use of cleaning supplies (combs, brushes) or infected clothing (hats, caps. Scarfs …), where the louse can survive for several days.
Although anyone can become infected, the parasite head lice occur mainly in children aged 6-10 years and women.

They are more likely children with fine hair and clear, which is also more difficult to distinguish nits. Although traditionally lice infestation occurs in populations with poor hygiene habits, these insects prefer to live on clean skin, so it is so easy that a person who maintains good hygiene contamination.
